Prayers of the Scriptures

Here are some prayers spoken by Christ and His apostles in their letters. It is good and wise that we pray these things today also,

"Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 18:19)


·       Pray what Jesus told us to pray

o   The Lord’s prayer (Luke 11:2-4)

o   That we would be counted worthy to escape all those things that shall come to pass, and to stand before Him (Luke 21:36)

o   That the Lord would send forth laborers into His harvest (Luke 10:2)

o   If ever applicable to us, that our flight be not in the winter or on the Sabbath day (Matthew 24:20)

·       Pray what Jesus prayed to the Father (John 17)

o   That all of us who believe in Him may be one even as He and the Father are one, that the world may know the Father sent Him

o   That God take us not out of the world, but that He keep us from the evil

o   That God sanctify us through His truth; His word is truth

o   That we may be with Jesus where He is, so that we can see His glory

·       Ephesians 1:17-19 prayer

o   That God give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him

o   To know the hope of His calling

o   To know the riches of the glory of the saints’ inheritance

o   To know the greatness of His power toward us who believe

·       Ephesians 3:14-19 prayer

o   That God would grant us to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man

o   That Christ may dwell in our hearts by faith

o   That we, being grounded and rooted in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, length, depth, and height; that we may know the love of Christ which passes knowledge, that we might be filled with all the fullness of God

·       James 1:5 prayer

o   That God grant us wisdom

·       James 5:13-16 prayer

o   Pray for the afflicted

o   For the elders of the church to come and pray over the sick, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord

o   Confess our faults and pray for each other that we may be healed

·       1 Timothy 2:1-2 prayer

o   Supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all people

o   Prayers for kings and those in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty

·       Colossians 1:9-11

o   That we might be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding

o   That we might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, increasing in the knowledge of God

o   To be strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness

·       Colossians 4:2-3

o   Pray for the ministers of God and all saints to be given a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ and make it manifest

·       Philippians 1:9-11

o   That our love may abound more and more in knowledge and in all judgment

o   That we may approve things that are excellent

o   That we may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ

o   To be filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God
